Mike McCready is a big KISS fan.

In an essay that appears on RollingStone.com this week, the Pearl Jam guitarist calls KISS his Beatles and "the reason [he] started playing music." He goes on to describe many of the ways KISS have affected his life and music, and what it's been like trying to explain his fandom through the years. He even says that, "There’s a KISS through-line to a lot of the music that came out of Seattle, and it hasn’t been talked about a lot."

McCready also states his feelings about the controversy that's developed around their performance -- or more to the point, non-performance -- at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction a week from today. And he makes it personal, since just last year he took part in the induction of a band with a somewhat similar dilemma to KISS's. He says: "I saw Heart play with their original lineup, and I went and jammed with them when they got inducted in the Hall of Fame. And then they got up with their new lineup, and everybody loved it. And it can be done, and I wish they would do it. It just makes the fans happy. And that's the point, in my mind."
