Summer has always been my least favorite season. Growing up in the Arizona desert will do that to you. As soon as the warm days and nights come, I get in the same mood that New Yorkers feel when Winter Winds begin to sweep into the Capital Region.
There is one thing that is worse than 100-degree days with a blistering sun or humidity: rain. Let's be honest, our summer this year stinks. It's officially on a "rain-delay." Can you remember the last time you saw the sun?
I spend most of my day in an office with no windows, so the rain has had little effect on me during the week. When I hear the rain drops hitting the roof, I run out to roll up the windows on my car - that's my biggest annoyance. I feel bad for my kids though. They've been out of school for a week and I think they've played outside once or twice. My wife is letting them play in the rain now, which turns our backyard into an instant waterpark.
My wife and I took a trip to Newport, Rhode Island over the weekend and the rain followed us there and back. Nothing is worse than going to a vacation spot where you spend more time dodging rain drops than enjoying the weather. I snapped this photo from the hour we spent on the beach. Sweet beach weather.
The weather has been so bad (How bad has it been?), it's been so bad that even the cheery TV Weatherman sounds like he's about to snap with all of the rain in the forecast. I actually heard the guy on Channel 10 todays say that he didn't put the rain icon in the forecast for Sunday because we needed a break, even though there is a chance of rain through this weekend. I changed my computer screen to a picture of a sunny day, my daily escape form the dreary, dull, gray days we face.
How are you dealing with our wet summer weather? My heart goes out to every one in the flooding areas. We had a few inches of water sneak into our basement a few weeks ago but that damage doesn't even compare to what you've experienced. Hopefully the weather forecasters will be right for a change and the sun they promise for this weekend will show up!
